Relentless Russian attacks continue across Ukraine which are destroying homes, injuring and killing people and animals, and knocking out power and water to civilians.

On July 9, Russia launched the largest aerial attack on Ukraine since the war began with over 700 drones and 13 missiles in a single day. Missiles continue to rain down day and night. 

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky shared a few days later, "Seven days of large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine: over 1,800 drones, more than 1,200 guided aerial bombs, and 83 missiles of various types. The Russians are intensifying terror against cities and communities to increasingly intimidate our people."

Brave volunteers continue to risk their lives to save those injured and evacuate people and animals near the frontlines. 

The Animal Rescue Site and Greater Good Charities are supporting local evacuation teams working across eastern, southern, and northern Ukraine. These volunteer-led groups play a critical role in transporting civilians -often elderly individuals, people with limited mobility, or families with children- as well as assisting with the evacuation and care of animals. 

Animal Rescue Kharkiv shared just a few of the recent animal rescue missions they performed in hard-hit areas. They rescue roughly 400–500 animals per month, with calls coming in from both civilians and military members for help. 

A senior dog named Zhuchok living with his owner was struck in the neck by shrapnel and was losing a lot of blood. Rescuers rushed to save him and it is a miracle he survived. He is stable and recovering at the rescue. 

Three adult dogs and nine puppies were rescued after a neighbor called for help after the owner passed away from a stroke. Countless more animals were also rescued from destroyed villages. 

Most calls come from civilians who want to evacuate but refuse to leave without their animals. These heroes enter areas still under attack to save lives.
